Die Geschichte:

Am 2. Juni 1975 besetzten über 100 Prostituierte die Kirche Saint-Nizier in Lyon/Frankreich, um auf die katastrophale Situation von Frauen, die anschaffen gehen, hinzuweisen. Die Zahl der Prostituierten, die sich dem Streik anschlossen, nahm in den nächsten Tagen weiter zu.

Die Bevölkerung und auch die Kirchenleitung äußerten sich positiv und unterstützten die Frauen. Der Streik der Prostituierten weitete sich auch auf andere Städte wie Marseille, Grenoble und Paris aus. Forderungen gingen bis an die höchsten staatlichen Stellen, die jedoch nicht bereit waren, für menschenwürdige Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen zu sorgen. Die nationale und internationale Presse berichtete über den Streik.

Hier wurden zum ersten Mal Prostituierte – ohne die herkömmlichen Klischees - für Menschen sichtbar. Sie sind berufstätige Frauen, die um ihre Menschenwürde kämpfen.

Am 10. Juni '75 wurde die Kirche um 5 Uhr morgens brutal durch die Polizei geräumt. Zur Erinnerung daran haben SexarbeiterInnen und deren Organisationen den 2. Juni zum Internationalen Hurentag erklärt.

Wie jedes Jahr feiern die Mitstreiterinnen von Hydra e.V. diesen 2. Juni im Gedenken an die Geschehnisse 1975. Sie verteilen Lilien an Sexarbeiterinnen in Berlin und erinnern mit dem floralen Symbol der Prostitution an den Mut der damaligen Streikenden.)

The story:

On June 2nd, 1975, more than a hundred prostitutes squatted the Saint-Nizier church in Lyon, France. They did this to show the public the catastrophic circumstances under which they were doing their work. Over the next couple of days the number of prostitutes who joined the struggle rose.

The public as well as the church supported the women. The strike of prostitutes continued and reached other cities, such as Marseille, Grenoble and Paris. Demands were made at the adress of high state functions but no one was willing to secure better living and work conditions for the strikers. The national and international press reported.

It was in this strike that for the first time prostitutes became visible for the public. And this did not happen in the usual stereotypical way the used to be visible, this time they were being presented as working women fighting for their human dignity.

On June 10, 1975 the Lyon church was brutally evicted by the police at five in the morning. In remembrance of this event sex workers and their organizations have declared June 2nd the International whores day.

Like every year employees and affiliates of Berlin's Hydra e.V. will celebrate International Whores Day by passing out white lillies to sex workers as a symbolic way to honor those who joined the courageous struggle on June 2nd, 1975.)
